EDUCATIONal activities
RESCUE MISSION
Within our Plan of the year, the Salesians of Don
Bosco practically go into the streets of Nairobi, where the street boys are, and
convince them to Join us at Don Bosco Boys where they would get help, in
form of Shelter, Education, Technical skills and even Spiritual nourishment.
These beneficiaries come from very poor family backgrounds within the slums
of Nairobi. Some are schools drop outs, abandoned, neglected, orphans, drugs
abusers and they have had all sort of difficulties in life.
After being rescued, the boys are taken through rehabilitation, where they
undergo a process to help them change their character and be reformed
from their former street behavior and attitude. The boys are introduced to
study, preparing them for the next stage of their formation. During this
process, home tracing is done and contact with their families are made for some of them, this is key to our integration process. These stages take from 3
months to 3 years.
On completing Primary, Secondary and acquiring Technical Skills, some of
them graduate to the University level, and others become enterpreneurs,
hence helping them to become fully independent.
MISSIONE DI SALVATAGGIO
I Salesiani di Don Bosco vanno
praticamente nelle strade di Nairobi, dove si trovano i ragazzi di strada, e
li convincono ad entrare al Don Bosco Boys dove riceveranno aiuto, sotto
forma di abitazione, cibo e vestiti, istruzione, abilità tecniche ed aiuto
morale e spirituale. Questi beneficiari provengono da ambienti familiari
molto poveri all'interno delle baraccopoli di Nairobi. Alcuni hanno
abbandonato la scuola, ma più spesso sono essi stessi abbandonati,
trascurati, orfani, tossicodipendenti e hanno avuto ogni sorta di difficoltà
nella vita.
La loro riabilitazione prende a volte anche tre anni: devono cambiare
abitudini e comportamenti e soprattutto far un distacco netto da tutte le
dipendenze di droga e non solo. Gia da subito, ma gradualmente, vengono
introdotti allo studio. Nel frattempo, viene effettuata la ricerca domiciliare
e per alcuni di loro vengono presi contatti con le loro famiglie, che sono la
chiave del processo di integrazione. Queste fasi richiedono da 3 mesi a 3
anni.
Al completamento della scuola primaria, della secondaria e
all'acquisizione delle competenze tecniche, alcuni di loro si laureano a
livello universitario e tutti vengono aiutati a diventare completamente
indipendenti.
